Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous sedimentation in the Mandawa Basin, coastal Tanzania

چکیده

This paper concerns the sedimentary successions deposited in Mandawa Basin after separation of East and West Gondwana during subsequent southwards drift Madagascar Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous times. The aim this study was provide more specific details on sedimentation report mineralogical petrographical characteristics less well documented successions, namely Kipatimu, Mitole Nalwehe formations, central northern parts Basin. depositional environments are reviewed, based sedimentological, results presented here, supplemented by previously published work. setting mainly reflects a shallow, tidally influenced, mixed carbonate-silisiclastic coastal ramp. succession displays cyclical best described as series transgressive-regressive sequences with limestones overlain siliciclastics. During transgressions microbial activity high rates low, resulting micro-oncoid deposition late Kimmeridgian – early Tithonian (Mitole Limestone Member), oncoids stromatolites (Nalwehe Member). regressive phases siliciclastic marginal marine sediments were over limestones. sandstones unfossiliferous display evidence being tide-dominated, environment.

Geochemical Characteristics and Hydrocarbon Generation Modelling of Early Triassic to Late Cretaceous Formations within Ogaden Basin, Ethiopia

The major goal of this study is the evaluation of the source rock of Ogaden Basin using Rock-Eval Pyrolysis, Vitrinite reflectance (%Ro), and well log data of the Permo-Triassic and the Mesozoic sequences including Karro, Hamanlei, and Urandab Formations. Burial history and level of thermal maturity of the Bodle-1 well, the Calub-1 well and the Hilala-2 well were modeled based on the calibratio...

Brachiopods from Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous hydrocarbon seep deposits, central Spitsbergen, Svalbard.

Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous (Late Volgian-latest Ryazanian) rhynchonellate brachiopods are described from eight out of 15 hydrocarbon seep deposits in the Slottsmøya Member of the Agardhfjellet Formation in the Janusfjellet to Knorringfjellet area, central Spitsbergen, Svalbard. The fauna comprises rhynchonellides, terebratulides (terebratuloids and loboidothyridoids) and a terebratellidine....

Dinosaurs and other fossil vertebrates from the Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous of the Galve area, NE Spain

Since 1950, diverse assemblages of Mesozoic vertebrates have been described from the Galve area (Teruel Province, NE Spain). More than fifty taxa have been noted, including fishes, crocodyliforms, pterosaurs, dinosaurs and mammals. The Galve fossil sites occur in an Upper Jurassic to Lower Cretaceous succession spanning some 30 myr, divided into five formations, representing marginal marine and...

Stratigraphic and structural evolution of the Blue Nile Basin, Northwestern Ethiopian Plateau

The Blue Nile Basin, situated in the Northwestern Ethiopian Plateau, contains 1400 m thick Mesozoic sedimentary section underlain by Neoproterozoic basement rocks and overlain by Early–Late Oligocene and Quaternary volcanic rocks. This study outlines the stratigraphic and structural evolution of the Blue Nile Basin based on field and remote sensing studies along the Gorge of the Nile. The Blue ...
